The End of an Era

We gather you all here today to mourn the death of a beloved friend.  A friend that always brought us a warm cup of coffee and did not succumb to the crappy pop band, but embraced the lost souls of the underground scene. Coming from a town where Conor Oberst grew up and Saddle Creek Records was formed, Omaha natives have been hit the hardest by this loss.  The truest hipsters made places like Homer’s and Caffeine Dreams iconic “hipster” meeting places, but now these sacred grounds have been trampled by white girls trying to order caramel macchiatos, and buying a Lana Del Rey vinyl to play on their brand new record player from Urban Outfitters.COFFEE 2

We went to The Mill, arguably the Caffeine Dreams of Lincoln, to pay our respects to this friend that has shown us some of our favorite bands and taught us to not chase “basic” style.  As we walked in, dressed in our funeral duds of beanies and high-waisted jeans, we finally realized this is truly the end.  The subculture that was meant to be a trendsetter is now…mainstream.

As we mourn the death of hipster culture, let us remind ourselves that there will always be a new subculture for us to latch onto until it has nothing new to give us.
